Gather with Decorah UU on Second St (also known as William St at its intersection with E Water St) at 2:30 PM. (This is very near Mary Christopher Park.)
Feel free to bring signs but no animals, please! (We didn’t include animals in our registration.) We hope to have a truck so that people who aren’t comfortable walking the parade route (approx. ½ mile up Water St) can hitch a ride.
Parade itself starts at 3 PM, followed by Party in the Park at 3:30 PM.
More details: Decorah Pride has a parade permit to march down the street. The parade will be led and followed by a police escort, but the streets will not be closed. Please stay close behind the group in front of you and avoid leaving gaps in the parade that might allow for the entry of cross-traffic.
If the police have to leave for an emergency, we will need to move over into only the right-hand lane to avoid any oncoming traffic. Parade organizers will be on hand to communicate this change and assist if this becomes necessary. If the parade ahead of you starts moving over, please follow suit.
The parade route begins with a right turn onto Water St and proceeds down the street and past the Oneota Co-op. Turn right when you reach River St. The parade ends at the Party in the Park in the lower Co-op parking lot (Decorah Farmer’s Market location). Pedestrian marchers, including group entries, can leave at that juncture. Vehicles and floats should proceed to the recycling parking lot on Heivly St to disband.
While we hope there will not be protesters, if any protesters do come to Decorah Pride, we urge all participants not to engage with them.
See Decorah Pride’s Facebook event or website for more information about not only the parade but also all the other Pride events happening!
