Our annual auction will take place during our 12/2 service.  Auction proceeds will benefit Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation‘s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program* and our own fellowship.  The event will include both a silent auction and a high-energy, exciting spoken auction with Decorah UU member Matthew Alexander serving as auctioneer.

The success of our auction depends upon the items our members and friends donate!

Here are some ideas for auction items, but you’re limited only by your creativity!

Activities

  • Dinner gatherings: International? Themed? Vegetarian! (Remember the point is community without too much hard work!)
  • Game night, movie night, or play reading night
  • A guided hike or a bike ride ending with a picnic lunch

Services

  • Lessons: language, bread making, sewing, or knitting
  • Yard help: an hour or two of gardening planning, weeding, mowing, or snow removal
  • Carpentry, plumbing, or home repair
  • Computer help

Goods

  • Homemade goods: bread, desserts, or other baked goodies
  • Bounty from the garden, either from this fall or promises of sharing next summer
  • Handmade, antique, or high-end goods that need a new home
  • Photos, pottery, handmade crafts, artwork, jewelry

Please contact Karen Esterl at kesterl@post.harvard.edu or call her at 563-277-0093 to learn more about how you can donate goods, activities, or services to the auction!

* The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is designed to aid qualifying low-income Iowa households in the payment of a portion of their residential heating costs for the winter heating season, to encourage regular utility payments, to promote energy awareness, and to encourage reduction of energy usage through energy efficiency, client education, and weatherization.
